Auburn Public Theatre* & the Williams Family Foundation present Geneva Theatre Guild's summer 2023 Main Stage production of Godspell, directed by Steve Duprey, with choreography by Lauren Calvo Evans and music direction by Deb Hodgeman.

Godspell is the American musical classic with a book by John-Michael Tebelak and music & new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, including the chart-topping “Day by Day.” A rock musical based on the Gospel of Matthew, its emphasis on joy, universal messages, and fostering a sense of community makes it popular with audiences of all backgrounds. The framing of Godspell has meant that it can be ever-adapted to speak to the current moment, and GTG hopes that our summer 2023 production will be no different, speaking to outsiders and people on the margins of society, fostering community.

Connor Hibbard dons the famous Superman t-shirt and rainbow suspenders as Jesus. Alec Richardson plays history’s most well-known turncoat, Judas Iscariot. The cast is rounded out by eight non-Biblical characters, played by Allie Smith, Alex Calvo Evans, Melvin Madera, Em Miracle,  Brian Morath, Kimberly Pantoliano, Abigail Reagan, and Anna Schmandt.

GTG's production will be directed by long-time GTG veteran, Steve Duprey. Steve is an award-winning director and artist from the Finger Lakes region, with over four decades of directing experience. His training includes a B.A. in Theatre Arts from Nazareth College of Rochester in 1981 and an M.F.A. in Directing from Syracuse University in 1989. He has directed over 100 productions for community theatres, college, high school & middle school students, and regional theatres. Recent work with GTG includes Main Stage Summer musicals Young Frankenstein in 2017 and Spamalot in 2019. Steve has recently expanded his repertoire into writing with his debut drama, Women of a Certain Age. Steve has been teaching theatre for over 20 years, currently serving as Adjunct Instructor of Theatre/Communications at Finger Lakes Community College. In addition to the numerous awards he has won himself from organizations like the Theatre Association of New York State and the Elenbe Awards, he has directed many actors to award-winning performances.

The music is brought to life by choreography by Lauren Calvo Evans, and music direction by Deb Hodgeman. The show is produced by Lucas Riegel and Em Miracle, and stage managed by TJ Bogart, all veterans of the Geneva Theatre Guild.
