Welcome to the ‘Age of Aquarius’. It’s 1969 and HAIR’s hippie ‘tribe' of youngsters in the East Village are questioning authority and yearning to change the world. Wild, colorful, sexually liberated, and free, they are united in protest and song even as the shadow of the Vietnam War looms. Their world and ours are a lot alike, even 50+ years later: protests against war, against racism; fights for gender equality, for LGBTQ+ rights; controversies over drug use, a divide between generations, a struggle to shift an entire cultural and political landscape. The perspectives may have shifted, but the fights remains the same.
HAIR, adored for its Grammy Award-winning score and iconic hits such as ‘Aquarius’, ‘Let the Sun Shine In’, ‘I Got Life’ and ‘Good Morning Starshine,' was written by Gerome Ragni (book and lyrics), James Rado (book and lyrics), and Galt MacDermot (music).
Geneva Theatre Guild’s production will take place July 30th – August 1st, 2020 @8pm, and August 2nd, 2020 @2pm at the Smith Opera House in Geneva, NY. The production is directed by Damian Grzeskowiak with Musical Direction by Holly Blueye.*
