Geneva Theatre Guild is thrilled to present Sylvia, by A.R. Gurney, directed by Mark Wenderlich. Sylvia is the Drama Desk Award-winning story of a marriage and a dog that critics have called "delicious and dizzy" and "a comic masterpiece."
Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in the suburbs only to find their lives upended by the arrival of Sylvia, a stray dog that Greg brings home from the park. Sylvia is no ordinary pup but a street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle, played on stage by a human actor who replaces the usual bark and howl with effervescence and attitude. As Greg finds in Sylvia a new lease on life and middle-age, Kate sees in her a rival for Greg's affections, and the potential end of a marriage. Sylvia is the hilarious and moving story of one couple's journey toward compromise and the profound relationship between man and their best friend.
Sylvia was originally produced Off-Broadway in 1995 in a production that starred Sarah Jessica Parker, Charles Kimbrough and Blythe Danner. The show made its Broadway debut in 2015 in a production starring Matthew Broderick and Annaleigh Ashford.
Sylvia will be presented at the all-new The Grange located at 33 Virginia Street in Waterloo, NY. Dates and times will be Feb. 24-25, 2023 @ 7:30 PM & Feb. 26, 2023 @ 2:00 PM.
