After losing her Mississippi home to creditors, Blanche DuBois relocates to New Orleans to live with her younger sister, Stella, and brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski. Clinging to romantic illusions and haunted by a troubled past, Blanche struggles to cope with the harsh realities of her new surroundings. Though she finds a glimmer of hope in Stanley’s gentlemanly friend, Mitch, her increasingly volatile conflict with Stanley threatens the fragile world she has constructed for herself. Unable to face the truth of her past, Blanche ultimately descends into madness.
Winner of the 1948 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Tennessee Williams’ explosive and groundbreaking A Streetcar Named Desire is an exploration of desire, loneliness, illusion, and brutality, and remains one of the greatest plays of the 20th century.

CASTING BREAKDOWN
BLANCHE DUBOIS — Woman; can play early 30s
Stella’s older sister, a former schoolteacher who arrives in New Orleans after losing the family estate. Charming, intelligent, theatrical, and deeply vulnerable, Blanche struggles to reconcile her romantic ideals with the realities around her.
STELLA KOWALSKI — Woman; can play 25–30
Blanche’s younger sister and Stanley’s wife. Warm, practical, and devoted to her husband, Stella is caught between two powerful and conflicting personalities.
STANLEY KOWALSKI — Man; can play early 30s
Stella’s husband, a working-class veteran with a commanding presence. Physical, charismatic, volatile, and intensely possessive, Stanley immediately clashes with Blanche.
HAROLD “MITCH” MITCHELL — Man; can play 25–35
Stanley’s friend and poker companion, distinguished from the other men by his gentleness and sensitivity. Lonely and sincere, Mitch develops an interest in Blanche.
EUNICE HUBBELL — Woman; can play 30s–60s
Stella and Stanley’s upstairs neighbor and close friend. Earthy, outspoken, and practical, Eunice is a lively and supportive presence in the world of Elysian Fields.
STEVE HUBBELL — Man; can play 30s–60s
Eunice’s husband and one of Stanley’s poker companions. Brash, hot-tempered, and often comic, Steve shares a passionate and frequently combative marriage with Eunice.
PABLO GONZALES — Man; any adult age
A friend and poker companion of Stanley, Mitch, and Steve. A smaller supporting role within the close-knit social circle surrounding the Kowalski household.
WOMAN — Woman; any adult age
A neighborhood woman who appears in the world of Elysian Fields. A small supporting role that helps establish the lively, communal atmosphere of the neighborhood. African American actors are encouraged to audition.
MEXICAN WOMAN — Woman; any adult age
A street vendor who passes through the neighborhood selling flowers. A small but memorable supporting role. Actors of Mexican or other Latin American heritage are encouraged to audition.
YOUNG COLLECTOR — Man; 18+; can play late teens
A teenage newspaper collector who briefly encounters Blanche. A small but memorable supporting role requiring a youthful presence.
NURSE — Woman; can play 30+
An attendant from a state institution who appears late in the play. Stern, physically capable, and businesslike, the Nurse is a small but significant supporting role.
DOCTOR — Man; can play 40+
A doctor from a state institution who appears late in the play. Calm, gentle, and compassionate, the Doctor is a small but significant supporting role.

Jesse Tyler Halstead is a singer, actor, musician, and director with over two decades of performance experience and has served on the Geneva Theatre Guild Board of Directors since 2025. He most recently directed GTG’s sold-out production of Death of a Salesman. Selected performance credits include Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, Miss Trunchbull in Matilda the Musical, Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors, and Elton John in Amélie. Jesse lives in Waterloo and is passionate about telling bold, character-driven stories onstage.
